Use a one or two-day mobile-voucher pass to ride Kyoto’s open-top sightseeing bus between major temples, markets, shrines, and museums. You can follow two routes, hear audio in seven languages, and spend as long as you like at stops such as Kinkakuji, Ginkakuji, Nijo Castle, and Kiyomizu-dera.

At Chazuna in Uji, an English-speaking instructor such as Hideko or Keiko guides you from tencha leaf to freshly whisked matcha. You will use a stone mill, learn brewing technique, taste your tea with sweets, and explore the included interactive museum. Arrive 15 minutes early.

At Kyoto’s Samurai Ninja Museum, a guide such as Naromi, Raito, Saku, or Nobu leads you through samurai and ninja displays, feudal Japan, armor, swords, and a ninja star throwing activity. Allow about an hour, and expect a compact, hands-on museum rather than a large historical collection.

Take a self-guided visit to Nidec Kyoto Tower, a 131-meter landmark beside Kyoto Station. From the observation deck, about 100 meters above ground, you can spot Kiyomizu Temple, Toji Temple, and much of Kyoto. The ticket is wheelchair accessible and valid for one month.
At Kyoto’s GEAR Theatre, you’ll watch robot workers and a living doll search for humanity inside a broken future toy factory. The 90-minute, dialogue-free show blends mime, magic, breakdance, juggling, music, lighting, and Kabuki-inspired stage tricks. S-seat admission is $46, with only 72 seats.

At the Samurai Ninja Museum in central Kyoto, you dress in hakama, learn basic Iaido movements with a blunt replica sword, try a controlled sword exercise, throw ninja stars, and tour the museum. Guides such as Riku, Ken, and Nobu have led sessions, though activities and group sizes can vary.
“We arrived about 20 min early so they rushed us upstairs to complete our “training”. It was nice (hence 3 stars) as it was just us, but it was so short and rushed I do wonder if we missed what the larger class did? We put on outfits, and were told how to hold a d swing the fake sword. Then we sat and were given instructions on how to use the real one. We each got 2 turns to swing and cut the bat. That was it. We changed and went downstairs where our “group” (others for our time slot) were trying on the gun costumes and taking photos.…”
Spend 90 minutes at Kyoto’s GEAR Theatre, a wordless stage show where five skilled performers use mime, juggling, magic, breakdancing, colorful costumes, projection mapping, and LED effects to tell a futuristic story. It works across language barriers and makes a good evening break from temples.

At Kyoto’s Samurai Kembu Theater, you’ll watch traditional and modern Kembu, hear clear explanations of samurai customs, and see performers wield swords while reciting battle poems. The one-hour visit includes about 40 minutes of stage performance, followed by a short sword-and-fan activity and photos with the performers.

Spend a day at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, a working-style film park built around Edo-period streets and historical drama sets. Walk Cinema Road, watch for Japanese TV or movie filming, add a samurai or ninja costume for a fee, and explore hero exhibits, family attractions, restaurants, and horror experiences.
